What is the fFN test?

When a patient is experiencing symptoms of preterm labour, it is important to determine if her risk of preterm birth is real or perhaps quite low.

fFN testing detects concentration levels of the fFN protein to reliably indicate whether a woman is likely to give birth prematurely. It is used in hospitals by doctors and midwives to enable them to make a decision on the most appropriate treatment plan.

fFN testing is the only named diagnostic test recommended in the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) clinical guidelines for preterm labour & birth.¹
