About Fetal Fibronectin Testing

A clinically proven, powerful indicator for planning and peace of mind.

fFN testing detects concentration levels of the fFN protein to reliably indicate whether a woman is likely to give birth prematurely. It is used in hospitals by doctors and midwives to enable them to make a decision on the most appropriate treatment plan.

  • What is fetal fibronectin?

Fetal fibronectin (fFN) is a protein produced during pregnancy, which functions as a ‘glue’ attaching the fetal sac to the uterine lining.1

The presence of fFN during weeks 22-362 of a high-risk pregnancy, along with symptoms of labour suggests that the ‘glue’ is disintegrating ahead of schedule and raises the possibility of preterm delivery.

  • What is the fFN test?

When a patient is experiencing symptoms of preterm labour, it is important to determine if her risk of preterm birth is real or perhaps quite low.

fFN testing detects concentration levels of the fFN protein to reliably indicate whether a woman is likely to give birth prematurely. It is used in hospitals by doctors and midwives to enable them to make a decision on the most appropriate treatment plan.

fFN testing is the only named diagnostic test recommended in the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) clinical guidelines for preterm labour & birth.3
